Methylsulfonylmethane Shows A Pattern Of Lower Pain Levels

Methylsulfonylmethane or section is an organic sulfur containing compound that is well known for its joint health benefits. It can be given to both canines and humans.

The graph here shows the results of a study, which was a randomized, double-blind, placebocontrolled trial evaluating the effects of section on oxidative stress, cell damage and pain.

The results showed a pattern of lower pain levels in the section group.Compared to placebo, section supplementation resulted in non-significantly lower muscle pain at T1 (p = 0.063), and lower muscle pain at T2 and T3. The levels of reduction in the section group at T1, T2, and T3 were at levels considered clinically significant (clinical significance defined as Δ > 10 mm) [25, 26], but none reached statistical significance.

Joint pain can be seen in dogs of all breeds and ages.

Developmental joint problems are caused by improper development of the joints while your dog is young, which is often rooted in their genetics, and may result in more serious injuries like hip or elbow dysplasia. These issues are present in your pup from the outset.

Many dog breeds, particularly large and giant dogs, are predisposed to painful joint issues such as:

  • Rottweilers are prone to developing knee and ankle joint problems
  • Bernese Mountain Dogs commonly develop elbow dysplasia
  • Newfoundlands are one of the breeds that are most prone to developing issues in their cruciate ligament.

If you are purchasing a dog from a breeder, you should consider asking them about any predispositions their breed or lineage might have to joint issues. A good breeder will provide you with that information unprompted, but it never hurts to ask if you don't receive it.

  • Hyaluronic Acid belongs to a class of molecules called glycosaminoglycans, which are highly polar which means they attract water and bind with it creating natural shock absorption and lubrication of joints.
  • Methylsulfonylmethane is a joint healer for its ability to reduce inflammation, block pain signals and help strengthen the structural bond of connective tissue.
